Earthly Branches

You can have up to 4 of the 12 Chinese animal Zodiac Signs in your birth chart (radix). These animals carry a certain elemental charge. When I describe the characterization of animals, I am not necessarily characterizing the animal but explaining the elements of which it is composed.

Earthly Branch	Elemental charge	Date	Time interval
Rat	Yang Water	7th Dec. - 4th Jan.	23:00 - 00:59
Ox	Yin Earth	5th Jan. - 3rd Feb.	01:00 - 02:59
Tiger	Yang Wood	4th Feb. - 4th Mar.	03:00 - 04:59
Rabbit	Yin Wood	5th Mar. - 4th Apr.	05:00 - 06:59
Dragon	Yang Earth	5th Apr. - 4th May	07:00 - 08:59
Snake	Yin Fire	5th May - 4th Jun.	09:00 - 10:59
Horse	Yang Fire	5th Jun. - 6th Jul.	11:00 - 12:59
Goat	Yin Earth	7th Jul. - 6th Aug.	13:00 - 14:59
Monkey	Yang Metal	7th Aug. - 6th Sep.	15:00 - 16:59
Rooster	Yin Metal	7th Sep. - 7th Oct.	17:00 - 18:59
Dog	Yang Earth	8th Oct. - 6th Nov.	19:00 - 20:59
Pig	Yin Water	7th Nov. - 6th Dec.	21:00 - 23:59

For example, the Ox zodiac symbol contains 3 elements: Yin Metal, Yin Earth, Yin Water. In such a case, the birth chart shows what elements are affecting your specific life’s area.

Earthly Branch	Hidden Heavenly Stems in Earthly Braches
Rat	Yin Water
Ox	Yin Earth	Yin Water	Yin Metal
Tiger	Yang Wood	Yang Fire	Yang Earth
Rabbit	Yin Wood
Dragon	Yang Earth	Yin Wood	Yin Water
Snake	Yang Fire	Yang Earth	Yang Metal
Horse	Yin Fire	Yin Earth
Goat	Yin Earth	Yin Fire	Yin Wood
Monkey	Yang Metal	Yang Water	Yang Earth
Rooster	Yin Metal
Dog	Yang Earth	Yin Metal	Yin Fire
Pig	Yang Water	Yang Wood

When there is a case where, for example, Water in the Heavenly Stem and Dog in the Earthly Branch, these elements have opposite effects (Water is flowing, Mountain is stable, restraining). In such cases, the individual may feel that he has an innate tendency to want to do something irrepressible, to flood, but in his earthly actions he may make decisions in which these celestial qualities are restrained. For some reason, the soul has brought this plan within. There are also times when the Heavenly Stem has a "root". This is when the Heavenly Stem contains the same elemental charge as the animal symbol (i.e. Yang Metal Monkey). It is for these reasons worth looking at how your chart is built up. This will bring you closer to understanding yourself.
