On October 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Budapest time, we enter the Yang Earth Dog month. With this, the Earth element of the Dog closes the Metal months and leads us into the Water months, the final quarter of the 2026 Yang Fire Horse year (November–December–January).
Yang Earth Dog - Your own rhythm, your own center, finding the golden middle
“The obstacle in the path of action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” Marcus Aurelius
October does not necessarily want to end relationships, but rather to make relationship patterns visible.
In October, there is almost no Water element in the chart (only hidden Water), which shows that we can finally put aside the overthinking and emotional processing of the previous period. (And there is no Uncivilized Punishment either – finally!) We can now focus on
questions of security and stability. With no Resource element, but more and more
wealth element becoming active, our attention shifts from inner work toward external circumstances. We can expect strong outside influences and activation in work, family and relationships. (The
Output element of the Yang Fire Horse can ignite the Fire: anger, rage, suppressed emotions, enthusiasm, etc.)
October is still a transitional month. The Dog is a
Grave Animal and a bullying punishment animal sign. Something may come to an end, and you may close a chapter of your life. You can finally leave behind pain and negative patterns. We are crossing this threshold into a renewed rhythm of life, where the new is still uncertain. Months when the
Dragon and Dog meet always bring surprises. The ground that seemed safe can suddenly shake, especially when this happens in wealth element, because both financial and inner emotional stability can become uncertain. A job, goal, lifestyle or relationship that seemed stable may suddenly shake, and the month asks you to keep your own center no matter what happens or what tries to pull you out of balance. The Yang Earth Dog is symbolized by a rock, a high mountain that holds many secrets within itself.
Living in extremes is not the solution!
With
Yang Earth Dog energy, you may fall into two extremes: intensity or numbness. You may feel that life has lost its colors and experience a boring, dull sense of isolation. The other extreme is when you want to escape this grey boredom at any cost, so you try to keep life intense through new experiences, new people or constant activity. But then you can fall into the trap of acting not because something truly calls you, but because you do not want to remain in the “grey” zone.
Both
extremes simply take you from one difficult situation into another. You need to learn to stay in the golden middle that may seem boring and grey at first, and trust that this space is actually full of possibilities.
The
Yang Earth Dog pillar therefore draws attention to your natural rhythm. When you find your own natural rhythm, numbness begins to disappear and life slowly becomes colorful again. After disappointment, for example, you may unconsciously close yourself off very deeply, suppressing or even denying your emotions. At a more harmonious level, however, this energy creates inner strength and a magnetic aura. It is like the Himalayas: millions of people travel there to experience its attraction and recharge themselves. The mountain does not go anywhere; that is not its rhythm. Its inner strength and aura shine so powerfully that it begins to attract opportunities (work, money, abundance, etc.). This is the central frequency of the month, and I believe it gives us the key to understanding the whole of October. The Yang Fire Horse year pushes many of us toward extremes: deep depression, crisis, identity crisis, relationship transformations, and questions about endings and lack of direction can appear at a disharmonious level. The Yang Earth Dog wants to stabilize us within these extremes.
Notice this October which extreme you have fallen into in any area of your life. Have you taken on too much because you wanted to prove yourself? Are you constantly busy because you do not want to stop? Or have you isolated yourself so much that you no longer allow in the things that could genuinely recharge you? The solution now is not to jump into another extreme, but to return to the rhythm in which you can truly function well.
At work, this may mean that you do not always demand constant performance from yourself. In a relationship, a quieter period does not mean that love is disappearing. Financially, constant growth is not the only definition of success.
October will therefore guide you back to yourself first, and only then ask you to decide whether something truly needs to change.
Yin Wood Rabbit - Adapt, but do not depend on a relationship: Moving from sacrifice to independence
We enter the October month on a
Yin Wood Rabbit day, and this energy becomes especially active from the middle of the month. One of the basic qualities of Yin Wood is avoiding conflict and bending before confrontation. It may choose not to speak the truth because it wants to avoid conflict so strongly. This pattern of consciousness can lead you toward experiences,
in which you need to understand how to become close to someone without losing yourself, how to support someone without giving yourself up, and how to receive from others without feeling dependent or powerless.
The middle and end of October therefore invite you to
free yourself from dependency. This may be
codependency, or even dependency on an unhealthy pattern. In October, life teaches you that everything cannot always be about your individual will. Sometimes you need to adapt to another person, and sometimes someone else’s needs need to become more important than your own for a moment. Sometimes you need to give, and sometimes you finally need to allow yourself to receive.
The important thing is that neither person loses themselves. It is very easy here to enter a situation where you become a victim if you do not set healthy boundaries. Adapting and helping are right and necessary, but becoming submissive and making yourself dependent on a relationship can mean the end of the relationship. This is especially important because the Horse energy of the year creates a
Destruction constellation, meaning that you may drift into a situation you would never have consciously chosen, but somehow entered because of a moment of weakness. The
Horse–Rabbit Destruction can bring embarrassing or uncomfortable relationship “accidents” that leave us saying afterwards: this should never have happened.
In the I Ching, this pillar is Hexagram 19, the image of
“Approach”. It teaches that true closeness does not come from demanding something or from dependency, but from feeling whole within yourself and being able to give from that wholeness: your attention and sensitivity to another person. The energy between the Day Pillar and Month Pillar connects beautifully here: you do not choose between the extremes of either me or the other person. Instead, you choose the golden middle: I remain an independent person in my own right, and from this place we can connect without falling into extremes.
It is a paradox that you become closer to another person by keeping your own independence and inner wholeness, which naturally also creates a certain distance.
So in October, the following questions can go very deep in our relationships (remember that the Yang Earth Monkey energy of the year connected to intimacy and relationship transformation is still active, moving from dishonesty toward honest intimacy):
- Do you love your partner, or do you need them in order to feel safe?
- Do you want closeness, or do you want reassurance?
- Do you give because you genuinely want to give from love, or because you are afraid of losing the other person?
- Do you adapt because it is a natural expression of love in this situation, or because you are afraid of conflict?
Between the
Rabbit and Dog, a Fire element is created. In the chart, Fire represents the Intelligence element, which brings
impulsiveness. What is impulsive is intense, but it is not necessarily intimate or honest. The Yin Wood Rabbit is sensitive and asks whether you can connect deeply without becoming dependent on the intensity of the relationship for your sense of security. The Horse–Dog Fire trine and the Rabbit–Dog Fire combination can bring impulsiveness to the surface and reveal the truth underneath.
So within the dynamics of the month, we first meet impulsiveness through the Rabbit–Dog connection. First we go beneath the surface, and then we need to renegotiate the balance of the relationship.
The
Yin Wood Rabbit and Yang Metal Dragon constellation then asks toward the end of the month: all right, given the situation that has developed, how can the two of you function together? The Rabbit–Dragon connection brings more focus to mutuality, equality and a re-examination of balance within relationships. Rabbit–Dragon creates a
half Wood trine, meaning that the Wood element brings the theme of growth: how can we continue to grow? The Dragon represents our goals, dreams and desires during this month. At a harmonious level, it definitely wants to move toward peace.
Yang Metal Dragon - From dream to reality - Visions and goals begin to flow, as long as they are not illusions
Finally, we enter the month during a
Yang Metal Dragon hour, which also connects to the energies described above.
The Yang Metal Dragon
projects. It has a very rich inner world of images, expressed through
visions, dreams and inner images. Its greatest challenge is falling into illusion. With this energy, you may see possibility or potential in someone and believe that this person can come alive within your own goals and imagined future. At a lower level, you may lose yourself in a
fantasy disconnected from reality. At a higher level, however, you can create a vision that has a real foundation and structure. The Yang Metal Dragon represents enormous creative power, so it can offer heavenly support for your goals and desires. It becomes an illusion when there is no stable foundation, or when you try to force harmony. For example, in a relationship that you are not yet ready for. At a higher level, the Vision has meaning and a visible path, and you are able to wait for the right timing. There is a contrast in the chart: the basic message of the Month Pillar tells you to remain in the stable, grey zone, while here in the Hour Pillar, great and inspiring visions may arrive. The important thing is that this Vision, this unity and peace, exists for you, but you need to wait for the right time. You do not receive it here and now. Extreme reactions will not move you forward, but your own rhythm and the grey middle zone will.
Another challenge of the Yang Metal Dragon appears when you hold on to your own security so tightly that you lose sight of your visions. You may often see your reality through fog and stubbornly fight to prove that you are right. Your task is not to choose between the idealized dream and grey reality, but to find a way to connect them! Let your imagination run free, allow your dreams in, open yourself to creativity and allow divine guidance. (For Yang Metal, the Dragon is an Indirect Resource element, meaning that it contains a divine source energy that cannot simply be learned!)
When the safe and desired state is not yet visible in the physical world, at a disharmonious level we may experience this as an obstacle. At a higher level of consciousness, when we have allowed the walls of the ego to break down, frustrating obstacles can become additional “fuel” and create a breakthrough dynamic. Stuck systems begin to dissolve, and in October we can bring movement and flow back into our relationships. But as long as we refuse to break down the walls of the ego, show our vulnerability and openly reveal ourselves to another person, events may continue to create frustration and trigger us. It may feel as if life is constantly provoking us... But that is not its purpose.
It wants to guide you toward freedom. Remove from your mind the idea that you are facing a limitation or obstacle. There will always be rules, people, situations or circumstances that do not develop the way you want them to. True freedom does not come from making every obstacle disappear, but from reaching a point where obstacles can no longer pull you away from your own inner center.
So if someone says something you do not like, you do not fall apart. A plan may fail, but you are still free. Someone may make a different decision from the one you hoped for, and you are still free. Your freedom does not depend on whether the outside world cooperates with you. It comes from not losing your own inner center and your own goals simply because something is happening differently from the way you wanted it to happen.
At a lower level: you do not say what you truly feel, so you build walls. Because of those walls, real connection becomes more and more difficult. Then, when someone or something touches this sensitive place inside you, you react automatically and either close yourself off even more or begin trying to control the situation.
At a higher level: you become honest with yourself, accept your feelings, allow the other person to be themselves as well, and when something still pulls you out of balance, you do not immediately try to change the outside world. First, you observe what is happening inside you.
This is the lesson of inner stability in October. The most important thing is not to avoid situations that pull you out of balance, but to understand what they are trying to show you about yourself. This may appear in your relationship, in overly idealized desires or in the grey routine of everyday life. In October, God comes closer to us than ever. The web of Heaven opens, and at this time we can ask for anything. Despite every obstacle and physical limitation, our lives can begin to flow again.
